One of the worst things that can happen to us is if we are unwell when we go on holiday. Most of us are relaxed and happy and do not get unwell but there are people who do. It is worth being prepared for such occurrences.
If you have any medication then make sure that you take it with you when you travel. Also take a first aid kit containing plasters, antiseptic cream, pain killers, indigestion tablets and anti sickness medication. However, it is also a good idea to make sure that you know where the local supermarket / chemist is where you can buy medical supplies should you need them, basics like after sun lotion, insect bite cream, cold remedies may be too much to carry but could be something you need.
It is worth finding out where the local accident and emergency is as well, although in a real emergency an ambulance would need to be called. It is important to find out what the emergency number is if you are staying abroad because you may need to call it. If you are staying in a country where you are not familiar with the language, then it is a good idea to learn a few medical related phrases such as asking where the chemist / doctors / hospital is and things like that. If you do rely on medication then it is also a good idea to write down the names of your pills and keep them in a separate place to the tablets so that if they get lost you can go to a pharmacy and hopefully get some more.
Hopefully you will not get unwell while on holiday and if you do, it will be something very minor, but it is always nice to be well prepared and know what to do in an emergency.
