If you’re looking for a destination that offers breath-taking scenery, fabulous beaches and almost unrivalled value for money, Turkey is the place for you. But, which of Turkey’s fantastic coastal resorts is best?
Oludeniz
Oludeniz Beach is not only considered to be Turkey’s most beautiful, it is also frequently listed as one of the top five beaches of the world. Photographers are drawn to the incredible turquoise waters of the Aegean, the deep blue lagoon and the long stretch of pebbly sand set picturesquely beneath Babadag Mountain.
Oludeniz is a very popular resort, but large enough to accommodate the beach-lovers and paragliders that flock here. Quieter than many of the other resorts, Oludeniz is particularly suited to couples and families.
Bodrum
Bodrum is perhaps best known for its nightlife, with more bars and nightclubs than any other resort. As Turkey’s most lively resort, it attracts many groups, although it still has lots to offer couples and families.
Bodrum is a picturesque port town dominated by the impressive castle of the Knights of St John. Buzzing bazaars and a variety of shops delight shopaholics, while attractive bays can be found within a couple of miles – just jump on a dolmus.
Antalya
Antalya, on the south-west coast, offers visitors miles of splendid beaches and safe, shallow Mediterranean waters, making it an ideal choice for families.
Couples are drawn to the area’s markets and excellent restaurants and bars, while visitors of all ages can enjoy discovering the area’s rich heritage: at Kaleici, the historic centre; at Hadriana’s Gate, built in the second century BC; and in the Antalya Museum, which is considered one of the greatest museums of archaeology in the world.
Kusadasi
On the western coast, Kusadasi is a popular stop for cruise liners, where stopping visitors can enjoy the many beaches as well as the superb restaurants, cafes, shops and bazaars. With the ancient city of Ephesus within easy reach too, Kusadasi offers something for everyone
Marmaris
In southwest Turkey, on the Turkish Riviera, lies beautiful Marmaris. Once a sleepy fishing village, Marmaris holidays now provide visitors with long beaches, a plethora of restaurants, cafes and clubs, a sophisticated marina, and the chance to uncover Turkey’s past in the old quarter.
Marmaris is set amongst picturesque pine-clad hills, the stunning beaches of Icelemer are just a short dolmus ride away and Rhodes can be reached within an hour by fast boat. If you’re looking for a resort with lively nightlife and the chance to explore unspoilt beaches by day, Marmaris could be the resort for you.
Individual Taste
Turkey offers something for everyone and the best resort for you comes down to what you want from your holiday. Whichever area you choose, Turkey won’t disappoint you.
