Holiday homes, vacation homes, short term stays — it’s all code for the same thing: comfort. Luxury. Convenience. Power. When you decide to break away from the classic hotel structure, you might have quite a few of your fellow travelers wondering if there’s something wrong with you. Unfortunately, the way most people assume travel has to be is where you bounce from flight to flight and from hotel to hotel. A lot of people have started to buck this trend by looking into creating a home away from home — literally!
Enter the world of vacation hotels, where you can really get anything you want done, as long as you’re willing to push forward and know what you want. This can be easier said than done, for a lot of different reasons. Depending on where you go in the world, there are a lot of shady deals that go forward. There’s nothing worse than finally getting to your host country and finding that the deal that you signed up for isn’t quite what you were expecting. In order to protect yourself, there are a few things that you might want to look at.
First and foremost, you want to make sure that there are a few reviews for the place that you’re staying to stay at. It’s a sign that they have been operating for a while. A home in a prime location that no one has ever stayed at should raise some red flags. And if you’ve already done your homework on the area of your choice, you’ll start learning real fast the places that are really where all of the action is. A prime location can be expensive, but you have to weight it against the other factors in the equation. Namely, do you really want to be in a far flung area where you have to drive or otherwise transport yourself to where everything is again? It would be better to be in a premium location where you know that you can see everything that the country has to offer. Maybe it means finding a little more money in your account for a trip like this, or maybe it means that you need to perhaps stay in less stellar accommodations. But it’s completely up to you with what you actually do.
A vacation home is what you make of it. If you have questions for the owner, by all means — ask them. Talk to them. Make sure that they understand that you are very interested in the place. Another thing that you will need to keep in min d is that money definitely talks — if you have the money to get things done, you are going to get things done in a big way. However, if you know that you really can’t afford it, you might want to look at alternatives.
During the busiest time of the travel season for that city, you might have a hard time getting the vacation home that you really want. That’s why it’s always a good idea to make sure that you actually pick out maybe 3-5 other options that you can move into in case that your first option isn’t where you want it to be. It’s just a matter of ensuring that you really take the time to plan through every option and think about what’s going to be best for the overall holiday as a whole.
We’re all about planning, but it goes without saying that sometimes you’re going to have to go with the flow. If you get to a vacation home that has everything you want, you should enjoy it. Don’t worry about the small repairs or things that won’t work quite the way you expect. You can drive yourself crazy worrying like that!
Now is the time to take action — great vacation homes tend to move quickly, so you have to be just as quick!
